Mechanical Project Engineer

Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel West Virginia is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer. The Project Engineer will be responsible for creating and tracking project scopes, budgets, and scheduling documents and will communicate with the team by distributing monthly update reports. In addition, they will be responsible for preparing drawings, procuring equipment, selecting contractors, planning work, and assuring safe practices on assigned projects. The Project Engineer will coordinate and manage projects including field installations, start-up of new equipment, and modifications to existing equipment. The job role will include developing new processing methods and making requested modifications identified by plant operations management to reduce cost, increase efficiency, and maximize profitability. The Project Engineer will recommend plant modifications to plant management to include layout, engineering design, cost estimates, and procedures. The job role will include providing engineering consultation for plant maintenance, obtaining and analyzing field data, establishing direction for cost-effective resolution of problems, as well as working with the maintenance engineering team to develop and execute these tasks.

Nucor Steel West Virginia is Nucor's new sheet mill with advanced steelmaking capabilities. This is a greenfield project, which is estimated to be fully operational in 2027. The new steel mill will employ 800 full-time teammates producing up to 3 million tons per year at one of the most technologically advanced sheet mills. This advanced manufacturing facility is to be located along the Ohio River near both Huntington and Charleston, WV. This is a full-time position located at our offices in Mason County, WV.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in steel manufacturing or Project Management.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and construction practices.
• Excellent verbal and/or written communication skills with all levels of personnel within the Company and outside vendors and suppliers.
• Proven ability with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and AutoCAD. Ability to organize large projects and take the lead role of the project’s design, procurement, construction, and start-up activities.
