LMF/VTD Technician

Basic Job Functions:

The LMF/VTD Technician position assists in the operation and maintenance of our LMF/VTD and supporting equipment.

The role of the LMF/VTD Technician is to assist the LMF/VTD Lead in safely overseeing all aspects of producing quality steel from the Ladle Metallurgical Furnace and Vacuum Tank Degasser. This includes daily operations, understanding cost, basic knowledge of scrap and residuals, alloy calculations, scheduling, operation of equipment, assisting maintenance, and coordinating shop flow. LMF/VTD Technicians will be expected to learn and effectively operate the LMF/VTD while alloying heats and managing slag chemistry. This individual is also responsible for the continuous development of themselves and all teammates working under their mentorship. Working a rotating shift including nights, weekends, holidays, and scheduled and unscheduled overtime is required.

Nucor Steel West Virginia’s greenfield project is a new state-of-the-art sheet steel mill that will produce up to 3 million tons per year once fully operational. This advanced manufacturing facility is to be located in Mason County, along the Ohio River in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.

Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

• Working around molten steel and slag.
• Ability to operate mobile equipment (overhead crane and forklift).
• Restocking consumables.
• Keeping a clean and safe work environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year steel making experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• LMF/VTD experience 
• Experience with alloy calculations and additions
