Hot Mill Process Metallurgist

Basic Job Functions:

The role of the Hot Mill Process Metallurgist is to develop practices to improve safety, quality, efficiency, yield, productivity, and costs.  Working closely with the team to develop and optimize process and product development, lead quality improvement efforts, utilize statistical tools to direct continuous improvement activities, and work on cross functional teams to problem solve issues.

Nucor Steel West Virginia is Nucor’s new sheet mill with advanced steel making capabilities and lower carbon emissions. This is a greenfield project, which is estimated to be fully operational after two years of construction. The new steel mill will employ 800 full-time teammates producing up to 3 million tons per year at one of the most technologically advanced sheet mills located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.

 Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, directly related field of study or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum of one year steel sheet experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hot Rolled Steel Sheet experience.
