Cold Mill Chocker/Grinder

Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel West Virginia is seeking an individual committed to safety and excellence for the position of Chocker/Grinder.

The Chocker/Grinder plays a critical role in supporting safe, reliable, and efficient Roll Shop operations. Responsibilities include:

     -Operating overhead cranes in coordination with other Roll Shop personnel
     -Chocking and de-chocking rolls to ensure inventory accuracy
     -Assisting with grinding wheel assembly, setup, and maintenance
     -Receiving, tracking, and maintaining roll inventory
     -Supporting troubleshooting of roll handling and grinder-related issues
     -Maintaining housekeeping standards, equipment care, and roll shop organization
     -Supporting uptime, safety, and quality goals in the Roll Shop

Nucor Steel West Virginia’s greenfield project is a new state-of-the-art sheet steel mill that will produce up to 3 million tons per year once fully operational. This advanced manufacturing facility is to be located in Mason County, along the Ohio River in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.

 Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Have High School Diploma or GED
• Have Mechanical Aptitude & Precision Measuring Skills
• Have 1 year of manufacturing or industrial experience
• Have the ability to work rotating shifts, scheduled/unscheduled overtime including nights, holidays and weekends.
• Have the ability to travel for training/ company events

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience operating overhead cranes or industrial lift equipment
• Previous work in a roll shop, steel mill, or heavy manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of grinder wheel assembly and chock handling procedures
• Familiarity with mechanical maintenance, lubrication, and precision alignment
• Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate inventory records and documentation
