Basic Job Functions:
Nucor Steel West Virginia is seeking a leader for the position of Batch Annealing Furnaces Operator. This role is responsible for safely operating and monitoring the full annealing cycle using 100% hydrogen atmosphere equipment, including furnace loading, cycle tracking, and final coil handling. The operator will ensure seal integrity, manage temperature profiles, support mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, and maintain equipment reliability through coordination with maintenance teams. Attention to process controls, data logging, and cycle efficiency is critical to ensuring product quality, uptime, and teammate safety.
Nucor Steel West Virginia’s greenfield project is a new state-of-the-art sheet steel mill that will produce up to 3 million tons per year once fully operational. This advanced manufacturing facility is to be located in Mason County, along the Ohio River in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Have a High School Diploma or GED
- Have strong mechanical aptitude and experience with precision measuring tools
- Have at least 1 year of manufacturing or industrial operations experience
- Able to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, and travel as needed for training or company events.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, including familiarity with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and standard safe work practices in an industrial environment.
- Have the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, production schedules, and work instructions
- Have basic computer literacy and the ability to interface with furnace control systems or PLC-based automation platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of experience operating thermal processing or heat treatment equipment
- Experience monitoring batch cycles, including temperature profiling and soak times
- Familiarity with hydrogen atmosphere systems or other controlled-environment furnaces
- Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues related to furnace operation or coil handling
- Previous experience in steel, metals processing, or other heavy industrial operations
