Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Buildings Group is seeking a talented individual that can assist the company in sales and profit by designing safe, accurate, and cost effective metal building systems.  This individual will also have the opportunity to assist in project meetings, estimating, special project work, and research and development as necessary.  Nucor Buildings Group is seeking someone that is able to work with all departments, plant, and outside sales as an integral part of the NBG team. 

 

As a Structural Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing all parts of the metal building system, including structural steel, wall and roof panel, secondary members, and stability bracing.  This will include, but not limited to:

  • Designing safe and economical structures
  • Load determination per applicable codes
  • Frame, secondary, bracing, crane, mezzanine and panel analysis using our proprietary software
  • Communicating design requirements to the Detailing Department
  • Reviewing and checking structural drawings
  • Working with others to continue to grow as an engineer
  • Perform work which involves design calculations for metal building sturctures and other structrual features 
  • Be able to design building orders with accuracy and within timeframes consistent with positon expectations 
  • Have a working knowledge of building codes and standards and be able to assure all building designs are processed in acordance to these governing codes and standards 
  • Demonstrate an ability to "value-engineer" to achieve efficient and cost affective design solutions maximizing profitablity
  • Assist in the coordination of resource usage with other departments to maximize profit on each job 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Exemplify a "Can Do Attitude" 
  • Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering from an accredited school with emphasis in structural engineering
  • Successfully passed the FE (EIT) Exam
  • Effective communication with the English Language using both verbal and written skills 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the pre-engineered metal building industry
  • Basic knowledge of building construction
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the United States
