Basic Job Functions:

We seek a self-motivated person who enjoys learning new technologies, thinks outside-the-box, and understands database interoperability impacts at an enterprise level. We want someone who can take ownership of what they create and hold others accountable to those same high standards - to meet the end goal of adding value with long-term strategies.

 

Our NBG DBAs manage multiple SQL Servers across the country. Each environment is similar with in-house developed application databases serving our core applications; but, also unique to that division’s needs (e.g. document management solutions). Additionally, we have cloud warehouse and application environments.

 

Our teams are cross-functional, self-organizing, and highly autonomous. You will be enhancing database system stability and reliability, implementing and managing disaster recovery plans, as well as handling performance tuning in a SQL Server environment.  You will be involved in establishing best practices and working with our developers, users, and vendors to follow these best practices.

 

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US.  Nucor is not providing a sponsorship for this position now or in the future.  Candidates must also be willing to travel for a period of a week a few times a year.

 

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Database Administration for Microsoft SQL (MSSQL) Server and troubleshooting.
  2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience with SQL maintenance, backups, restores, and recovery models.
  3. Must be able to write and review complex SQL queries.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.
  2. MCSA: SQL Server or MCSA: SQL 2016 Database Administration certification.
  3. Hands-on experience with standard SQL Server tools.
  4. Working knowledge of High Availability and Disaster Recovery options for MSSQL Server.
  5. Advanced knowledge of database structure, design, and documentation.
  6. Minimum of 2 years’ experience with core concepts including indexing, integrity checks, configuration, normalization, triggers, stored procedures, and statistics.
  7. Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services and a strong working knowledge of Windows server environments.
  8. Experience with one or more business intelligence systems such as Microsoft Power BI; as well as data warehousing.
  9. Experience with SQL Server Analysis Services, and/or Integration Services a plus.
