Nucor Insulated Panel Group – Met-Span is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Maintenance Technician 1 - 2nd Shift to perform a variety of functions such as equipment installations, repairs, or modification of equipment for generation, distribution, or utilization of electric energy in the manufacturing facility. Installs, modifies, and maintains all plant buildings, machinery and equipment, including mobile equipment and production machinery, in a good state of mechanical repair.

Basic Job Functions:

  • Knows and understands all safety rules and precautions necessary for working with and around hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical apparatus.
  • Ability to deal with complex factors not easily evaluated and to make decision based on conclusions and findings.
  • Installs and repairs a variety of equipment and systems.
  • Working knowledge of 480 V / 120 V electrical systems, electric motors and contactor, control circuits, have familiarity with PLC Systems, Hydraulic systems and components, pneumatic systems and components, power transmissions systems, piping systems and components, basic welding and fit-up, basic machine setup and alignment, rigging and lifting skills.
  • Uses electricians hand tools and measuring and testing equipment.
  • Diagnoses and corrects trouble in the electrical system or equipment, working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment.
  • Performs visual and mechanical inspections required to keep machinery in good condition to produce a finished quality product to order specifications.
  • Follows preventive maintenance program as established by the company and performs inspections of equipment and takes preventive action when necessary
  • Maintains buildings, performing minor and major repairs.
  • Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating and ventilating equipment.
  • Gives on the job direction to new maintenance mechanics and/or others assisting in maintenance work.
  • Maintains continuous improvement efforts in work area.
  • Able to operate a forklift.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). Minimum 3 years of documented experience as an Industrial Maintenance Technician, Mechanic and/or Electrician
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently while using good judgement
  • Able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Ability to communicate information effectively one-on-one and in small group
  • Ability to perform general mathematic calculations such as fractions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in resolving unexpected events and circumstance.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools, shop machine tools and testing equipment
  • Able to pass a substance abuse screening test and/or criminal background check.


Work Environment

May be required to enter areas that are near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate and may require the use of hearing protection. Required to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when accessing certain manufacturing areas, (hard hat, gloves, welding jacket or weld bibs, safety glasses, welding hood and earplugs.)
