Basic Job Functions:

This position will conduct the coordination of company security and emergency services, loss prevention, safety, health, construction safety, fire control, and/or providing effective professional safety and health support to improve and sustain industrial health and safety of all teammates. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  assisting with onsite construction project safety coordination, working with state and federal safety regulations, analyzing compliance, implementing best practices and effective communication for safety and health issues, maintaining the safety management system, assisting with development of safe job analysis/procedures, delivering training, auditing safety efforts, participating in safety focus teams, coordinating industrial hygiene monitoring,  leading and participating in Voluntary Protection Partnership (VPP) preparation and assisting in management of workers compensation, and return to work and medical programs.  The Safety Coordinator will also be trained as a Radiation Safety Officer and perform the associated responsibilities.  This position will be required to be on call. 

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have an associate’s degree or equivalent experience in safety related field and must have an Emergency Medical Technician license (NREMT or KYEMT-B). 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferences include a bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering or related field; experience working with construction safety and federal/state safety regulations and laws; at least two years of experience working in an industrial environment applying safety policies and development of safety and loss prevention programs; and knowledge of VPP, Safety, Quality or Environmental Management Systems.  Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, ANSI, IBIH and other regulatory standards, protocols and compliance in order to create policies and procedures.
