Basic Job Functions:

The role of the Network Technician includes, but is not limited to: (1) Responsible for supporting a complex large scale computing environment consisting of Windows/Linux/HPUX/Servers, VM platforms, Microsoft Active Directory/Exchange, Oracle/SQL Server databases, SAN/Storage, LAN/WAN/VOIP/Telephony equipment and Backup/Disaster Recovery systems; (2) Perform day-to-day infrastructure maintenance and monitoring functions including server hardware/operating systems, enterprise applications, security patching, configuration management, LAN/WAN/VOIP/Telephony operations, IPS/IDS systems, intranet/internet systems, and Disaster prevention/recovery duties; (3)Develop, document, and maintain systems security configuration standards; (4)  Work with the team to set goals and continually look for ways to cut costs while maintaining or increasing the performance of the enterprise infrastructure; (5)Work with all departments to leverage job functions and utilize a standard set of tools; and (6) Assisting other IT staff, user community, and vendors as needed to resolve issues. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. 3 years experience in a Network Technician capacity or 5 years experience in an infrastructure environment.
  2. Availability and willingness to work irregular hours and on call as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. College degree in Information Technology
  2. Willingness to obtain IT certifications and/or already have certifications such as Network+, Cisco (CCNT, RHCE, CCNA, and VCP).
  3. Network access management using tools such as Solar Winds, IPS, NSM, NTOP, and Groundworks/Nagios, etc.
  4. Knowledge/experience with Cisco routers, HP switches, LAN/WAN/VOIP equipment, Oracle databases on multiple platforms, MS Exchange, MS SQL Server, MS Active Directory, and a firm grasp of internet protocols.
  5. Working knowledge of general business practices with consideration given for those with knowledge of steel mill operations.
