As a metallurgist at Nucor, no day is the same. You will work in a fast-paced environment where you are empowered to drive results. The metallurgist works to drive long-term and short-term improvement projects while also handling day-to-day operational issues in the mill. Nucor invests in value added projects in the mill to deliver high quality steel to our customers. The industries we serve range from windmills providing green energy to the bridges and skyscrapers across the US. We are proud to be one of a few domestic suppliers of steel to the US Armed Forces. Nucor Hertford is situated an hour from the North Carolina Outer Banks and a couple hours from the mountains, an ideal location for those who enjoy the great outdoors.

NSHC is looking for a self-starter who is excited to own their projects and work with the Team to achieve results. While being provided general direction, the successful candidate will work with the Team to determine projects. A positive attitude and passion for safety is required. The metallurgist is responsible for providing technical experience to support your area in safety, production, quality, and other job functions.

 Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be in a Bachelor of Science program for Metallurgy or Materials Science Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately analyze data and problems
  • Understanding of steel, physical metallurgy, and material structure/property relationships and the ability to act as a technical resource for the Team
  • Ability to initiate own projects given general direction and prioritize workload
