Basic Job Functions:

Nucor-Yamato Steel Company is one the most modern, efficient, and technologically advanced steel mills in the world today which produces wide flange steel beams, pilings and heavy structural steel objects designed for large constructions projects. We are seeking to hire a Plant Metallurgist for full-time employment at our manufacturing facilities located at 5929 East State Highway 18, Blytheville, AR 72316. The offered engineering position is a critical and essential position in the company's in-house Quality Department that supports the continuous development of innovative steel products and improvement of existing steel production practices. Duties include but are not limited to: Review steelmaking and rolling processes to improve their metallurgical characteristics, yield. and cost; Provide technical  expertise for process development and continuous improvement of steelmaking processes; Engage in new product and grade development through analysis, experiment, and implementation of new raw materials, chemistries, equipment and manufacturing practices; Utilize  engineering, physical metallurgy and steel-making knowledge to help the company optimize process variables and improve the quality of its products, lower production costs, improve mechanical properties of low carbon steels and improve process efficiency; Implement and  monitor testing practices as per the required specifications so that the metallurgical requirements are met; Review, purchase and install new metallurgical equipment for the upgrading of in-house testing capabilities; Provide support in the maintenance and proper operations of testing and analytical instruments; Utilize statistical process control tools to direct continuous improvement activities; Develop, revise and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for special manufacturing projects; Develop and coordinate quality and safety training programs for operations, maintenance and quality assurance laboratory teams; and Review and process customer claims, which requires  providing metallurgical technical support to the company, sales and marketing departments.  No travel required.  Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Requirements:

 A qualified candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, materials science or a related field and 12 months of experience in metallurgical engineering or materials science.
