Basic Job Functions:

Nucor-Yamato Steel is seeking applicants for the Mechanical Engineer position. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Maintenance team and must be committed to excellence in everything we do with the departments on safety, quality, and capital improvement projects for the division, including contractor oversight. The primary duties include, but are not limited to, provide efficient solutions to problems, plan, schedule, and implement the engineering, procurement, and construction of each project using outside contractors, engineering firms, and maintenance team to complete projects from start to finishing safely, on time, and within budget and will work collaboratively with the team to support our production and maintenance team and reach our goals. The successful candidate must have the ability to perform routine and corrective maintenance on industrial equipment. This is a Mechanical Maintenance position to provide hands on field support. This position will work scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays as needed. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in an Engineering Discipline

Demonstrated superior analytical and project management skills

Engineering and Technology Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to work at hand. 

Mechanical Knowledge Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and/or maintenance. 

Teamwork Working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal.

Judgement/Decision making Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

Business Acumen General business knowledge and an understanding of how Nucor makes money.

Independence Ability to work efficiently with minimal oversight.

Accountability/Dependability Displays responsibility with work habits and has ability to hold others accountable for desired results. Being reliable, responsible, and committed to fulfilling obligations.

Preferences:

Project management experience

Mechanical maintenance experience
