Basic Job Functions:

BACKGROUND: Universal Industrial Gases, LLC. (UIG) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nucor and a well-established, global engineer, constructor, supplier and operator of air separation plants and related equipment and services, based in Bethlehem, PA.  UIG owns and operates production plants across the USA which supply both Nucor steel sites and third-party clients 24/7 with tonnage quantities of oxygen, nitrogen and argon as well as exporting liquid cryogenic products by road tanker.

BASIC FUNCTIONS: 

UIG is currently seeking Mechanical Engineer accountable for the successful integration of the equipment into overall industrial gas plants. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

•    Act as the Responsible Engineer for the equipment on assigned scope throughout the proposal, engineering, construction, and commissioning phases 
•    Responsible for basic design, detailed engineering and procurement related activities of equipment  
•    Develop project technical documentation (specifications, data sheets, vendor document requirements, etc.) for design and procurement of industrial gases plant equipment in accordance with the applicable codes, industry standards, and client requirements
•    Perform equipment, piping, valves and component sizing and calculations 
•    Assist and direct the design team for development of PFD’s, P&ID’s, drawings, BOM, etc. 
•    Coordinate equipment engineering activities with internal and external engineering resources to produce engineering deliverables on schedule and within budget
•    Participate in weekly project team meetings and provide progress status on equipment design and procurement 
•    Develop bid and purchase packages, issue requests for quotations, bid evaluations, and purchase requisitions 
•    Review, validate, and approve vendor calculations, drawings and documentation
•    Participate in inspections and testing of equipment as required
•    Manage and track open actions, technical queries, change orders, and their close out
•    Participate in equipment start up, commissioning and troubleshooting as required 
•    Support plants operation as required 
•    Assist in the development of equipment schedule, budget, and supplier scope of work 
•    Primary point of contact for clients, suppliers, and plant operation on assigned technical scope
•    Assists in development of department best practices, processes, procedures, tools, as well as standard specifications and data sheets
•    Collect and maintain Lessons Learned log and assist with the company continuous improvement effort

Minimum Qualifications:

1-    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering 
2-    Five to fifteen years of experience in mechanical design of industrial equipment in an engineering company or in an operating company with project equipment engineering duties
3-    Experience in selecting and specifying process equipment and associated systems such as main air compressors, pumps, Cryogenic expanders, Vaporizers, etc. 
4-    Ability to review and validate supplier calculations, drawings and documentation for purchased equipment compliance to codes and project specifications 
5-    Excellent computer and Microsoft Office Software skills
6-    Effective communication skills both written and verbal as well as effective problem-solving skills
7-    Ability to travel up to 25% of the time (domestic and international) 
 

Preferred Qualifications:

1.    Detailed knowledge of various types of equipment for Air Separation Plants
2.    Experience starting up and troubleshooting of equipment
3.    Experience with pipe stress analysis 
4.    Experience with developing and maintaining engineering specifications, data sheets, procedures, Excel engineering spreadsheets and engineering management tools
